Rangers Sign James Reimer After 35-Save Hartford Shutout
The veteran goalie receives a one-year NHL contract. New York also sends Spencer Martin and Matthew Robertson to Hartford.
James Reimer signed a one-year contract with the New York Rangers on Sunday, returning to the NHL after a single tryout start with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The 38-year-old stopped all 35 shots he faced in Hartford’s 2–0 win over Providence on Friday. He had joined the American Hockey League club on a professional tryout October 15.
As part of Sunday’s roster moves, the Rangers assigned goaltender Spencer Martin and defenseman Matthew Robertson to Hartford. The Wolf Pack released Reimer from his tryout as he moved onto an NHL contract for the rest of the 2026–27 season.
Reimer brings 539 regular-season NHL appearances and 32 career shutouts. Last season with Ottawa, he made 13 starts with a 2.42 goals-against average and an .886 save percentage. His NHL career includes Toronto, San Jose, Florida, Carolina, Detroit, Anaheim, Buffalo and Ottawa.
New York has been relying on Dylan Garand while Igor Shesterkin is out for the season and Joonas Korpisalo is on injured reserve. The Rangers host the Los Angeles Kings on Monday at 5 p.m. MDT at Madison Square Garden.
