Jake Paul Targets Canelo After Mbilli Win; No Fight Announced

Paul praised Canelo’s return, then renewed his call for a fight. His confirmed Dubai comeback still has no named opponent.

“Did take a lot of punches though. We will dance my friend, we will dance,” Jake Paul wrote on X after Canelo Alvarez’s return against Christian Mbilli. The October 31 written reaction, posted at 7:14 p.m. EDT, renewed Paul’s challenge to the Mexican boxer without announcing a fight or fresh agreement.

Paul began the message by praising Alvarez’s performance after thirteen months outside the ring. His subsequent reference to punches absorbed and a future meeting appeared in the same short post, reproduced in Sunday’s reporting. It did not identify a date, weight, venue or broadcaster for a contest between the two men.

Alvarez beat Mbilli by unanimous decision in Riyadh to regain the WBC super middleweight title. The result supplied the immediate setting for Paul’s remarks, but it did not resolve Alvarez’s next opponent. TSP’s separate fight account covers the championship fight and the boxers’ post-fight reaction.

A challenge with an earlier negotiating history

Most Valuable Promotions previously described negotiations for Paul to face Alvarez on Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas. In its statement about the 2025 talks, the company said it had been deep in negotiations and expressed disappointment about how the situation unfolded. That was the promotion’s account of discussions, not confirmation that a fight had been completed.

“We remain in active discussions with multiple high-profile opponents,” MVP said in that earlier statement. The remarks described the company’s position at that time; they should not be read as a new negotiating update following Alvarez’s latest victory.

Paul’s next announced appearance remains December 24, 2026, in Dubai. MVP’s October 29 release did not identify an opponent. The comeback follows his December 2025 loss to Anthony Joshua, after which the promotion said he suffered a broken jaw. Neither that booking nor Paul’s new message identifies Alvarez as the man he will face on Christmas Eve.
