AC Milan and Inter Unveil Generali Stadium, Target 2031–32 Opening

The clubs confirmed the Generali naming partnership on October 29. Their intended 2028 construction start and 2031–32 debut remain subject to approvals.

AC Milan and Inter unveiled Generali Stadium on October 29, naming the insurer as the commercial partner for their planned shared home. The clubs are targeting the first match for the 2031–32 season, with construction expected to begin in 2028, subject to the necessary approvals.

The joint club announcement describes a roughly 71,500-seat venue designed by Foster + Partners and MANICA. Designs include two steep supporter sections. Generali will also become the official insurance partner of both clubs. The project combines a new football ground with retail, leisure and public spaces in the surrounding San Siro district.

The clubs’ statement did not disclose a financial value for the naming agreement. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported revenue of about €650 million over approximately twenty years. That figure is attributed reporting, separate from the commercially confirmed naming partnership and the clubs’ published construction targets.

Gazzetta also reported that the venue would use the Milano Stadium name for international competitions where UEFA naming restrictions apply. Its report placed the agreement alongside other sponsored Italian stadiums, including Juventus’ Allianz Stadium, Atalanta’s New Balance Arena and Cagliari’s Unipol Domus.

The announcement received another public presentation around the Milan derby. Inter reported that president and chief executive Giuseppe Marotta and Milan president Paolo Scaroni met Generali group chief executive Philippe Donnet before the match. The meeting celebrated the naming agreement and linked the stadium project to the two clubs’ longer-term business plans.

Arsenal provides a comparable example: Gazzetta noted that its Emirates Stadium name becomes Arsenal Stadium for UEFA competition. The newspaper said the Milan announcement came during a press briefing at Castello Sforzesco, distinguishing the formal project launch from the later derby-day meeting of club and insurance executives.

The new project remains in the design and planning phase, with both construction and first-match dates explicitly conditional.
