Devin Cooley Week-to-Week With Lower-Body Injury As Flames Turn to Wolf

Devin Cooley is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, Calgary coach Ryan Huska said Friday, leaving the Flames to turn back to Dustin Wolf in goal.

Calgary placed Cooley on injured reserve and recalled Arsenii Sergeev from the AHL’s Wranglers to back up Wolf, Sportsnet reported. The move followed Cooley’s early exit from Wednesday’s 4–0 loss to Edmonton.

Oilers forward Colton Dach collided with Cooley while driving toward the net with 12 seconds left in the first period and received a goaltender-interference penalty. Cooley finished the period but did not return for the second.

Cooley had allowed six goals on 133 shots across his previous four games entering Wednesday, a .955 save percentage. The interruption therefore removes a goalie who had recently been providing strong results, with no specific return date announced.

Wolf’s first assignment after the change produced a 6–2 victory over Seattle on Friday. He stopped 20 of 22 shots and played all 60 minutes as Calgary moved to 6–7–0. Calgary reached 12 points through its first 13 games.

That game required Wolf to protect an early lead, handle a first-period equalizer and then preserve Calgary’s advantage after a second-period scoring burst. Seattle’s Freddy Gaudreau tied the game 1–1 before the Flames struck three times in 4:55 during the second.

Mackie Samoskevich pulled the Kraken within 4–2 on a power play late in that period. Wolf then kept Seattle scoreless through the third, while Matt Coronato and Ryan Strome added Calgary goals to settle the result.

The Flames limited Seattle to 22 shots and killed three of four penalties. Their own power play scored on both opportunities, reducing the burden on a goalie returning to the starting role. With Cooley unavailable, Wolf and the recalled Sergeev form Calgary’s immediate goaltending options while the club awaits its next injury update.
