Ravens Lose Rookie Guard Olaivavega Ioane to MCL Sprain
The Ravens’ first-round guard faces a reported short absence after injuring his knee against Cincinnati, adding to Baltimore’s offensive-line changes.

Baltimore Ravens rookie guard Olaivavega Ioane is expected to miss time after suffering an MCL sprain during Sunday’s loss to Cincinnati. The injury is considered short term, according to reporting by Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo summarized on the Ravens’ official website Tuesday.
Ioane left the first half of the 35–13 defeat and did not return. Emery Jones Jr. replaced him, continuing a season in which Baltimore has repeatedly adjusted its offensive line because of injuries. The reporting did not establish a fixed return date, so a short-term description should not be read as a guarantee about a particular game.
The timing interrupted Ioane’s return to his original position. He started the first three games at right guard, then shifted to center for three games after injuries reduced the Ravens’ options in the middle. Trade acquisition Cam Jurgens made his first Baltimore start at center against Cincinnati, allowing Ioane to move back to guard before the knee injury occurred.
That movement explains why the rookie’s availability has become important beyond a single starting spot. Baltimore has already lost centers Danny Pinter, Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic to longer absences. Ioane had helped the team navigate those problems before sustaining an injury of his own.
The Ravens selected the Penn State lineman 14th overall in April. Their official draft profile lists him at 6-foot-4 and 326 pounds. His early professional workload has included both interior positions, giving Baltimore useful flexibility during an unsettled opening portion of the schedule.
NFL.com’s Tuesday roundup also listed guard Michael Jordan among Baltimore’s practice-squad signings. That adds another name to the organization’s options, but it does not establish the starting combination for the upcoming visit to Buffalo.
Baltimore enters that matchup at 4–3, with the Bills at 5–1. The Ravens must prepare protection and run-blocking assignments while monitoring Ioane’s recovery and their other injured players.
For now, the actionable update is that Ioane faces an absence described as limited rather than season ending. Subsequent practice participation and the final game-status report will provide the clearer measure of his availability.
