Week 6 Waiver Wire: Which Sunday Breakouts Are Worth Buying?
Bernard’s opportunity, Wicks’s receiving role and two injury-dependent backfields lead the review as managers prepare their Week 6 claims.

Germie Bernard’s six-catch Sunday gives fantasy managers a receiver to investigate before Week 6 waivers. Dontayvion Wicks offers a more established receiving role, while the cases for Kendre Miller and Dameon Pierce depend heavily on injuries around them.
This review assumes a 12-team league with one quarterback and full-PPR scoring. The roster shares below come from RotoBaller’s October 12 snapshot; availability on your own platform can differ. Monday’s Buffalo–Los Angeles game was still pending at this reporting cutoff.
Germie Bernard: add for the receiving opportunity
Rostered in the source snapshot: 3.0%. Bernard finished Sunday with six receptions for 80 yards and one carry for four yards. Michael Pittman Jr. is on injured reserve, and Roman Wilson left the game with a finger injury, leaving Pittsburgh’s receiver workload worth watching.
The reason to claim Bernard is the possibility that his involvement continues. Six catches provide a more useful PPR starting point than a long touchdown on an isolated target. His place in the passing game still needs to hold when the injury picture becomes clearer.
TSP action: Put in a measured claim if you need a receiver or have an expendable bench spot. Treat him as a developing flex option. Wilson’s practice participation and Pittsburgh’s next personnel decisions should determine how quickly Bernard moves into a starting lineup.
Dontayvion Wicks: prioritize a usable receiving role
Rostered: 44.6%. Wicks has topped 60 receiving yards in three of Philadelphia’s five games, according to the same review. DeVonta Smith’s hamstring absence has increased the importance of the available receivers to Jalen Hurts.
Wicks is worth checking even if you assumed he had already been taken. Managers needing an immediate receiver should give meaningful weight to repeated involvement, especially when comparing him with a player whose production came on limited work.
TSP action: Consider him for a bench or flex place if he is available. Reassess the outlook when Smith returns to practice, because the current injury context is part of the case for adding Wicks.
Kendre Miller: a conditional backfield addition
Rostered: 11.8%. Miller led New Orleans with ten carries Sunday, gaining 30 yards and scoring a touchdown. Travis Etienne Jr. remains on injured reserve, while Alvin Kamara has been dealing with injuries despite playing against Minnesota.
Ten carries put Miller into the discussion, but his touchdown does not establish a large weekly workload. Kamara’s receiving role and availability remain central to how much useful work Miller can obtain.
TSP action: Add him as depth if your running backs are depleted. His value increases if Kamara misses time; with Kamara available, Miller is better treated as a limited-volume option whose scoring can vary considerably.
Dameon Pierce: watch the injury reports before spending heavily
Rostered: 2.4%. Pierce received 11 carries and five targets after Philadelphia’s backfield injuries opened work, but produced only 14 rushing yards and minus-two receiving yards on two catches.
Monday brought a more specific Shipley update. FantasyPros relayed Adam Schefter’s report of a partial plantar-fascia tear that could cost Will Shipley multiple weeks. Saquon Barkley’s hamstring recovery remains relevant, and Tank Bigsby is on injured reserve.
TSP action: Make Pierce a conditional claim if you need an immediate running back. Monitor Barkley’s practice work before assigning Pierce a starting role. His opportunity is attractive if Philadelphia remains short-handed, while Sunday’s efficiency argues for a modest investment.
The choice should fit the vacancy you need to fill. Wicks and Bernard belong in the receiver review; Miller offers backfield depth, and Pierce is most relevant to managers who need short-term carries. Keep an available alternative until the practice reports establish who can play.
