Fantasy Football: Should Woody Marks Be a Week 6 Priority After Montgomery’s Injury?

Montgomery is week-to-week, and DeMeco Ryans says Marks will carry the load. The opportunity makes Marks a strong waiver target where available.

Woody Marks belongs near the top of the Week 6 waiver list for managers who need running-back volume and can find him available. David Montgomery’s groin injury has created an immediate opening in Houston’s backfield.

Coach DeMeco Ryans called Montgomery week-to-week Monday and said Marks would carry the load while Montgomery recovers, according to Aaron Wilson’s report summarized by FantasyPros. That coaching assessment gives the pickup more support than a one-game box score alone.

Marks handled 15 carries and four receptions in Sunday’s 26–3 win over Tennessee. The Houston Chronicle recorded 63 rushing yards and 22 receiving yards. Montgomery left after five carries.

The case for adding him

The attraction is access to touches. A back who can work as a runner and receiver gives managers more than one route to points, particularly in leagues that award points for receptions. Four catches matter even when a player does not score a touchdown.

Managers facing a thin Week 6 running-back lineup should make Marks a priority over a speculative reserve whose role still depends on another player getting hurt. Marks already has a path to work, and the head coach has addressed that path directly.

Set a limit on the expectation

A larger role does not guarantee efficient rushing or touchdowns. Houston rushed for 80 yards on 26 attempts Sunday. Marks also had a touchdown run erased by a holding penalty; that play does not belong in his official production.

The week-to-week designation is not a fixed multiweek absence. Montgomery’s practice participation and the team’s next game-status report remain relevant before setting a lineup or treating Marks as a long-term starter.

Managers with strong running-back depth can be more selective about a claim or bid. Those who urgently need a starter have a clearer reason to spend. There is no single useful bid percentage without knowing the league’s budget, bench size and alternatives.

The practical recommendation is to add Marks where available, then confirm Montgomery’s status and Houston’s backfield usage before finalizing Week 6 lineups. His opportunity is real; its duration still needs to be established.
