“We just did not win any 50/50 puck battles. We didn’t have numbers on pucks,” Ryan Warsofsky said after the San Jose Sharks lost 5–0 to the Dallas Stars on October 5.

In the Sharks’ posted postgame interview, Warsofsky was asked what his team could have done to create more offense. He said San Jose needed to be more connected coming out of its zone as well as winning more contested pucks.

Warsofsky said he had not minded the first 10 minutes, but that an early penalty helped Dallas get its touches and put the Sharks on their heels. Dallas outshot San Jose 26–13. Miro Heiskanen opened the scoring with 1:09 left in the first period.

Asked about Macklin Celebrini, who did not play, Warsofsky said he was still being evaluated and would be assessed again after the game and the next day.

In the Stars’ posted interview, Glen Gulutzan was asked about getting bodies and pucks to the net. He described using sustained zone time against a young Sharks team.

“One way to slow them down is to just grind and play in that zone,” Gulutzan said.

Gulutzan also praised Jake Oettinger’s composure despite the low shot total, saying “the shots that he got were dangerous.” Oettinger stopped all 13 shots for the shutout.
