Carson Soucy’s training-camp tryout has turned into a contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The club announced Tuesday that it signed the defenseman for one year at $1.15 million.
The 32-year-old entered camp on a professional tryout and now gives Columbus another experienced option on defense as the regular season begins.
For Soucy, the agreement settles the immediate question of where he will play after arriving without a guaranteed roster contract. For the Blue Jackets, it adds veteran depth without a multiyear commitment.
The signing follows his work in Columbus’ preseason preparations, with the club moving from evaluation to a formal deal ahead of its opener against Buffalo.
A contract does not by itself establish an everyday pairing or a fixed workload. Those decisions will emerge from the lineup, but Soucy has cleared the first step: turning a camp invitation into an NHL job.
