Ryans praises Stroud’s response; Coen backs Jaguars after London loss
Houston's coach credited his quarterback's recovery after a late interception, while Jacksonville's coach retained confidence and identified mistakes to address.
“He responded in an outstanding way, leading the two minute drive there to set us up for a game winning field goal,” Houston coach DeMeco Ryans said of C.J. Stroud after Sunday’s win over Jacksonville in London.
Asked whether Stroud remained in control after his late interception, Ryans said the quarterback understood his mistake immediately. Stroud’s response gave his coach confidence that Houston could recover.
Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 49-yard field goal as time expired secured Houston’s 34–31 victory at Wembley Stadium on October 18. Cam Little had tied the game with a 60-yard kick with 1:55 remaining.
Jacksonville coach Liam Coen was asked in his postgame news conference about his confidence in the team’s direction entering the bye. He said Jacksonville would keep its process while evaluating the areas that needed improvement. Earlier, he had pointed to a touchdown erased by holding and a red-zone interception as costly mistakes.
“But I have a lot of confidence in this team. I’m extremely proud of this team and the way they kept fighting today,” Coen said.
