The New York Rangers beat the Vancouver Canucks 6–2 on Sunday, October 11, at Madison Square Garden in their first game since losing Igor Shesterkin to a season-ending lower-body injury.
Dylan Garand made 19 saves, and Tye Kartye and Will Cuylle each scored twice. New York improved to 4–0–0 at home, while Vancouver suffered its fourth consecutive loss, Field Level Media reported.
Kartye opened the scoring 27 seconds into the game. Vancouver stayed close through Jake DeBrusk’s first-period goal and a shorthanded equalizer from defenseman Elias Pettersson in the second.
Kartye restored New York’s lead with 1:35 remaining in the middle period. Alexis Lafrenière added a power-play goal early in the third, and the Rangers pulled away with goals from Cuylle and Gabe Perreault.
J.T. Miller assisted on both Kartye goals. Perreault and Lafrenière each finished with a goal and an assist. Kevin Lankinen allowed six goals on 25 shots for Vancouver.
The result gave the Rangers an immediate win after Shesterkin’s injury at Washington on Friday. Garand has taken on the starting role, with backup Joonas Korpisalo also sidelined, according to the NHL’s report.
