The Dallas Mavericks signed guard-forward Seth Lundy on Saturday, adding a former second-round pick who returned to competitive action this summer after missing two seasons because of injuries.
Dallas did not announce contract terms. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Lundy had agreed to a training-camp deal, giving the 26-year-old an opportunity to compete for a place with the Mavericks rather than a confirmed regular-season roster spot.
The signing brought Dallas’ camp roster to 20 players. Lundy will wear No. 31 and joins a group that added veteran centre Dwight Powell a day earlier.
Lundy showed he could still score during four Summer League games with the Toronto Raptors in July. He averaged 20 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals while shooting 52 per cent from the field and 43.8 per cent from three-point range.
That performance followed a lengthy interruption to his professional career. Lundy underwent surgery on his left ankle in 2024, then aggravated the problem during the preseason. He did not appear in an NBA or G League game in either of the next two seasons.
His last NBA action came with Atlanta in 2023–24. He played nine games as a rookie, averaging 1.6 points in 5.8 minutes, and also spent time with the Hawks’ G League affiliate in College Park.
Lundy subsequently held a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers but did not make an appearance for the franchise before being waived. His Summer League return in Toronto provided a new body of game evidence ahead of this opportunity in Dallas.
The Mavericks already have 15 players on standard contracts and all three two-way positions occupied, according to the Dallas Sports Journal. That makes a place in camp different from a place on the opening-night roster, with further decisions required before the regular season.
Lundy is entering a crowded competition on the wing. Dallas’ camp group includes Max Christie, Tarik Biberović, Naji Marshall, Caleb Martin and Zaccharie Risacher, while Jett Howard occupies a two-way spot.
The preseason will give Lundy his next opportunity to turn the shooting form he showed in Las Vegas into a role with an NBA club.
