Matthew Golden, Week 6: Keep Starting Him Against Dallas

Golden’s steady target volume and early production support a start against a Cowboys defense allowing favourable passing efficiency.

Matthew Golden should stay in Week 6 fantasy starting lineups against Dallas. His recent production has come with repeated opportunities, rather than depending entirely on one long touchdown. Through five weeks, he has finished with at least seven targets in every game except Week 2, according to NFL.com’s current matchup assessment.

The evidence for a start. NFL.com’s Week 6 receiver column lists Golden at 15.7 fantasy points per game, with at least 9.8 in each outing. It places him in its must-start group. Those figures are the publication’s scoring presentation; managers should compare them with their own league’s reception and bonus rules before using an exact point expectation.

The important feature of that record is the combination of a scoring floor and sustained targets. A receiver can survive an inefficient afternoon more easily when the quarterback keeps returning to him. Golden’s role supplies a reason to keep playing him even when another Green Bay receiver receives more attention after a particular game.

The Dallas matchup. NFL.com’s assessment identifies the Cowboys as allowing the second-highest completion percentage over expected to receivers and the fourth-highest expected points added per dropback. Those measures describe a permissive passing environment through the opening weeks. They improve the case for the matchup, but the sample remains small and does not guarantee a particular yardage total.

The risk to manage. Targets still have to become catches, and one player’s weekly result depends on how the offense distributes its passing work. A team can also change its plan once a game begins. Do not translate a favourable defensive ranking into a reason to bench a clearly superior player simply because his matchup looks harder.

Roster action. Keep Golden in the lineup over a fringe receiver whose target share or playing time is uncertain. In a close decision, his established early workload is a useful tiebreaker. This recommendation concerns the Week 6 start, rather than an instruction to overpay in a trade or treat five games as a settled full-season ranking. Recheck the final injury report and Sunday’s active list before locking the position.
