Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave will miss the rest of the season after tests confirmed a torn Achilles tendon, ESPN reported Monday.
Hargrave was injured late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 31–7 victory over the Chicago Bears. Coach Matt LaFleur had said after the game that the Packers feared an Achilles injury; Monday’s testing confirmed that concern.
The 33-year-old is in his first season with Green Bay after spending last season with the Minnesota Vikings. He recorded six tackles in four appearances before the injury, Sportsnet reported.
His absence follows the loss of linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, who also suffered a torn Achilles last week. The consecutive injuries remove experienced help from two levels of Green Bay’s defense.
Hargrave has played 150 NFL games across stops with Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Minnesota and Green Bay. His career totals include 438 tackles and 49 sacks.
Green Bay’s victory over Chicago therefore came with a significant longer-term cost. The club will have to redistribute Hargrave’s defensive-line work for the remainder of the season.
