Ehlers scores winner against Jets as Hurricanes win seventh straight
Ehlers’ third-period power-play goal gives Carolina a 3-2 win in Winnipeg.

Nikolaj Ehlers scored the winning power-play goal against his former team Saturday, October 17, as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 at Canada Life Centre. The result extended Carolina’s winning streak to seven games.
Ehlers put the Hurricanes ahead at 6:43 of the third period after Winnipeg had twice led during the second. Mark Jankowski and Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored Carolina’s other goals, while Shayne Gostisbehere finished with two assists.
Mark Scheifele opened the scoring for Winnipeg, and Alex Iafallo restored the Jets’ lead after Jankowski had tied it. Kotkaniemi’s goal made it 2-2 before the second intermission, setting up Ehlers’ winner against the club he left for Carolina.
Special teams supplied two of the Hurricanes’ three goals, with Jankowski also scoring on the power play. Carolina killed Winnipeg’s only power-play opportunity and protected the one-goal advantage through the final minutes.
The loss was Winnipeg’s first regulation defeat at home this season. The Jets next visit St. Louis on Tuesday, while Carolina continues its road trip in Calgary on Sunday.
