MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes and Kenneth Walker III scored on the ground and through the air as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 24–10 on Sunday to improve to 3–0.
Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce for an 11-yard touchdown with 2:55 remaining, turning a seven-point game into a two-score lead. Miami fell to 0–3 after staying within striking distance for most of the second half at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Kansas City quarterback completed 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Rashee Rice led the Chiefs with seven receptions for 88 yards, while Kelce finished with two catches for 59 yards and the closing touchdown.
Walker put Kansas City ahead on a 10-yard touchdown run less than three minutes into the game. Miami responded with a three-yard scoring run from Ollie Gordon II late in the opening quarter to level the score at 7–7.
The Chiefs regained the lead early in the second quarter when Mahomes found Walker for a five-yard touchdown. Kansas City took that 14–7 advantage into halftime, having scored both of its first-half touchdowns through its running back.
Riley Patterson’s 37-yard field goal brought Miami within four points in the third quarter. Harrison Butker answered from 34 yards early in the fourth, restoring a seven-point cushion before the Mahomes-to-Kelce connection settled the contest.
Walker carried 18 times for 70 yards and caught two passes. Miami quarterback Malik Willis completed 20 of 36 attempts for 210 yards, with an interception and no touchdown passes, and added 56 yards on nine rushing attempts.
The overall yardage was close, with Kansas City holding a 334–329 edge despite Miami controlling the ball for more than 34 minutes. The Dolphins’ opportunities did not translate into enough points: they failed on all three fourth-down attempts and finished with two turnovers.
Kansas City’s fourth-quarter scoring made the difference. After Miami cut the deficit to 14–10, the Chiefs produced the final 10 points to protect their unbeaten start.
Miami also lost De’Von Achane to a knee injury. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game, and coach Jeff Hafley expressed concern afterward, according to NFL.com’s Sunday injury update. The checked report did not establish a diagnosis or recovery timetable.
