Bears quarterback Caleb Williams left Sunday’s 9–3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings with a right hamstring injury midway through the fourth quarter at Soldier Field.
Williams was scrambling to his left on first-and-goal from the Minnesota 6 when his right leg gave way and he went down without contact. Trainers helped him off the field. After a stop in the medical tent, he was carted to the locker room with a towel over his head, briefly removing it to acknowledge the crowd.
The Bears ruled Williams out for the remainder of the game. Coach Ben Johnson said afterward that the severity of the injury remained unclear. Williams is scheduled to undergo imaging Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Game rundown
Minnesota’s defense held Chicago without a touchdown in steady rain, a week after the Bears scored 59 points against Carolina.
Will Reichard made field goals of 35, 49 and 39 yards. Cairo Santos accounted for Chicago’s only points with a 50-yarder in the first quarter.
Williams completed 15 of 26 passes for 138 yards with an interception and was sacked three times. He also rushed for 42 yards on five carries.
Tyson Bagent replaced Williams, but the drive stalled. Isaiah Rodgers blocked Santos’ 23-yard field-goal attempt with 6:21 remaining, preserving Minnesota’s 6–3 lead. Reichard extended the advantage with 1:09 left before Bagent drove Chicago to the Vikings’ 12. Dallas Turner’s sack on fourth-and-2 ended the game.
Carson Wentz, starting with Kyler Murray in concussion protocol, completed 11 of 20 passes for 143 yards. Justin Jefferson caught three passes for 55 yards and moved into second place on Minnesota’s career receptions list. Aaron Jones rushed for 105 yards.
Chicago committed eight penalties and turned the ball over twice, including a D’Andre Swift fumble at the Minnesota 1. The Bears fell to 1–1 and host Philadelphia on Monday, Sept. 28.
