Marner’s overtime goal lifts Golden Knights past Kings 2–1

Vegas wins its fourth straight game.

Mitch Marner scored a power-play goal at 2:40 of overtime as the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Los Angeles Kings 2–1 at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.

Marner also assisted on Vegas’ regulation goal. Trevor Connelly finished with a goal and an assist, Mark Stone had two assists, and Carter Hart stopped 26 of 27 Los Angeles shots.

The teams played a scoreless first period before Connelly gave Vegas the lead on the power play in the second. Stone and Marner assisted on the opening goal.

Artemi Panarin tied the game on a Los Angeles power play at 6:21 of the second period, with Adrian Kempe and Brandt Clarke receiving assists. Neither team scored during the third, sending the game to overtime at 1–1.

Stone and Connelly assisted on Marner’s winning goal. Vegas scored both of its goals with a man advantage, while the Kings’ only goal also came on the power play.

Darcy Kuemper made 30 saves for Los Angeles. Vegas finished with a 32–27 edge in shots on goal and needed its 32nd shot to settle the game.

Connelly’s two points came on the same two scoring plays as Marner’s, with Stone supplying an assist on each. Hart allowed only Panarin’s second-period goal before the Golden Knights won in overtime.

Vegas improved to 5–1–0 with its fourth consecutive victory. Los Angeles moved to 0–2–2, taking one standings point from the overtime loss.
