Padres beat Brewers 4-3 to force NLDS Game 4

Jake Cronenworth homered in the fifth, and Michael King secured a two-inning save. Milwaukee still leads the best-of-five series 2-1.

Jake Cronenworth hit a go-ahead home run, and Michael King finished a two-inning save as the San Diego Padres beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 Tuesday, October 6, at Petco Park to avoid elimination in their National League Division Series.

San Diego led 2-0 in the third after Fernando Tatis Jr.’s run-scoring groundout and Manny Machado’s RBI single. William Contreras homered in the fourth, and Jackson Chourio’s fifth-inning sacrifice fly tied the game before Cronenworth homered off JoJo Romero in the bottom of the fifth.

Xander Bogaerts scored San Diego’s fourth run in the sixth when Miguel Andujar reached on shortstop Cooper Pratt’s throwing error. Christian Yelich’s RBI single brought Milwaukee within 4-3 in the seventh.

King allowed one hit and two walks over two scoreless innings. He walked two batters with one out in the ninth, then induced Yelich’s game-ending double play.

Contreras went 3-for-4 with a homer. Milwaukee outhit San Diego 11-6 but left 11 runners on base. The Brewers lead the best-of-five series 2-1, with San Diego’s win forcing Game 4.
