“Mike played well; he took care of the football,” Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski said after Atlanta’s 45–24 win over New Orleans on Monday, October 5, as reported by the Associated Press.

Michael Penix Jr. completed 15 of 20 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown at Caesars Superdome. Atlanta did not turn the ball over.

Saints coach Kellen Moore had gathered players to watch videos about Hurricane Katrina and the Superdome’s 2006 reopening game before the night commemorating its 20th anniversary.

Moore said the team understood the occasion and brought energy, but the Falcons “were able to get things going early and we weren’t able to catch up.”
