Rashawn Slater undergoes ankle surgery as Chargers announce injured reserve move
The Chargers confirm Thursday’s procedure and say Slater will begin rehabilitation immediately.

Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater underwent ankle surgery Thursday in Los Angeles, the team announced Friday. The Chargers said he would be placed on injured reserve that afternoon and begin rehabilitation immediately.
Slater was injured during the Chargers’ 30–23 loss at Seattle on October 4. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported after Monday’s tests that Slater had suffered a high ankle sprain.
The team’s surgery announcement did not provide a return date. The four-to-six-week recovery range previously reported for a typical high ankle sprain was not an individual medical timetable for Slater.
Los Angeles also lost right tackle Joe Alt to a neck injury against the Seahawks. Alt was ruled out for Sunday’s game against Denver, leaving the Chargers without either starting tackle for that matchup.
Slater returned this season after missing the 2025 campaign with a torn patellar tendon. The Chargers entered Week 5 at 0–4 following the loss at Seattle.
