The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to acquire cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced late Wednesday, adding an experienced starter to a secondary already dealing with injuries.
NFL Network reported Pittsburgh would receive a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
Porter, 26, offers Dallas another option alongside DaRon Bland. Cobie Durant has been dealing with a hamstring injury, while Shavon Revel has had knee and ankle issues, according to the Cowboys’ announcement.
Porter, a second-round pick from Penn State in 2023, has 41 career starts.
He has yet to play this season. Pittsburgh listed him as inactive for its first three games, and the Cowboys said his latest injury designation included conditioning and his back.
The contract question follows him to Dallas. Porter is in the last season of his rookie deal after extension talks with Pittsburgh failed to produce an agreement before the season. The Cowboys’ announcement did not include a new contract.
