Bears’ Montez Sweat suspended for two games
Chicago loses Sweat under the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy and activates Shemar Turner from the PUP list.

Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat has been suspended for two games without pay for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. The punishment, announced Tuesday, sidelines him for Chicago’s Week 6 game at Atlanta and Week 7 meeting with New England.
Sweat is eligible for reinstatement October 23, ESPN reported. He has seven tackles and two sacks through the Bears’ first five games after leading Chicago with 10 sacks last season.
The Bears activated defensive lineman Shemar Turner from the physically unable to perform list Tuesday to fill the roster opening. The 2025 second-round pick returned to practice September 23 after a torn ACL ended his rookie season last October.
The suspension adds to Chicago’s uncertainty at defensive end after Dayo Odeyingbo left Sunday’s 31–7 loss at Green Bay with a quadriceps injury. Coach Ben Johnson had not supplied a health update Monday. Austin Booker leads the Bears with four sacks, while Turner returns after playing only five games as a rookie.
