“I love the fight that we had as a team,” Matthew Stafford said in the Rams’ postgame availability.
Stafford completed 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in Los Angeles’ 37–34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night at SoFi Stadium.
Asked about putting together four complete quarters, Stafford pointed to the Rams’ second-half scoring and the defense’s overtime turnover. He said Los Angeles had given itself opportunities against a strong Buffalo team but had not finished with a win.
Puka Nacua caught a career-high 17 passes on 24 targets for 138 yards and a touchdown. Stafford was asked what made the receiver effective across that volume of work.
“He can access all areas of the field,” Stafford said.
He cited Nacua’s work on screens, underneath routes, in the middle of the field and along the perimeter. Nacua also rushed for nine yards, giving him 147 yards from scrimmage.
Davante Adams caught five passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns, scoring from four and five yards. Tyler Higbee added five catches for 83 yards, and Blake Corum had three receptions for 53 yards alongside his rushing touchdown.
On the Rams’ final regulation drive, Stafford completed six of seven passes to help set up Kyren Williams’ one-yard touchdown run. Asked why Los Angeles hurried to run the ball after Williams’ reception reached the one-yard line, Stafford described confidence in his teammates and trying to maintain the drive’s pace.
“Trust our guys,” he said.
Stafford also accepted that he could help his teammates with communication after the Rams’ false starts. Los Angeles next hosts Arizona on Sunday.
