Fantasy Hockey: Should Dylan Garand Be Your Next Goalie Addition?
Garand followed his Vancouver win with 25 saves against Tampa Bay. His growing workload makes him a useful addition for managers who need goalie starts.

Dylan Garand remains a useful addition for fantasy managers who need goalie starts. He made 25 saves in the Rangers’ 4–1 win over Tampa Bay on October 13. The latest completed-game report adds another win to his growing workload.
Managers replacing Igor Shesterkin can prioritize that available work. Those already carrying reliable starters should compare Garand with their weakest goalie and check whether another addition would use a roster spot needed elsewhere.
Start with the available work
Shesterkin is out for the season. The October 10 injury report estimated a four-week absence for Joonas Korpisalo. Both remained injured in the October 13 lineup report, which listed Spencer Martin behind Garand.
The reported injuries create a reason to add Garand beyond Sunday’s score. A goalie who receives starts can help managers short of games played, especially when the alternative is a reserve with an unclear assignment.
What the latest starts provide
On October 11, Garand stopped 19 of 21 shots, a .905 save percentage, in the 6–2 win over Vancouver. That victory moved New York to 4–0–0 at home, according to the completed-game report.
Against Tampa Bay, he stopped 25 of 26 shots, a .962 save percentage for that game, according to the official game summary. Across those two starts, he stopped 44 of 47 shots for a combined .936 save percentage.
Using Yahoo’s default goalie scoring, the Vancouver start produced 10.4 points and the Tampa Bay start 17.0. Each calculation gives five points for the win, adds 0.6 per save and subtracts three per goal allowed. Check your own settings before comparing those returns with another goalie.
The risk to account for
The two-start .936 figure describes completed games, not a projection for the next week. In category leagues, consider whether another start is needed to meet your minimum or whether it puts a lead in save percentage or goals-against average at risk.
His share of starts can also change when Korpisalo returns or if the Rangers alter the goalie mix. The present opening is meaningful, but it should be reviewed alongside each announced starter rather than treated as a promise of every game.
The roster decision
Add Garand if he is available and you need starts, with a measured claim that reflects the player you would drop. Managers already holding strong starters can be more selective about whether an additional goalie improves their lineup.
The Rangers visit New Jersey on October 15 at 5 p.m. Mountain Time on the announced schedule. Check the confirmed starter before committing a lineup spot. Korpisalo’s return or another change to the Rangers’ goalie roster would require a new workload assessment.
