Scott Arniel Addresses Job Security After Jets’ Ninth Straight Loss
Winnipeg lost 7–0 at Carolina on November 1, extending its winless streak to nine games. Arniel said his focus remained preparing the team.

Scott Arniel said he was not worried about his job security after the Winnipeg Jets lost 7–0 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, November 1, extending their winless streak to nine games.
“It’s not on my mind. I’m not worried about it,” Arniel told reporter Mike McIntyre, according to Heavy’s account of their exchange in Raleigh. The Winnipeg coach said decisions about his future were beyond his control and his focus remained preparing the players.
Arniel also said players had to accept responsibility for their execution once play began. Asked whether his message was still being heard, he left that assessment to the reporter while saying he and his assistants were doing everything they could to prepare the team.
The result left Winnipeg 4–8–3. Arniel is in his third season as head coach. His first brought a 56–22–4 record and the Presidents’ Trophy in 2024–25, but the Jets missed the playoffs after finishing 35–35–12 last season.
Winnipeg has gone 0–7–2 during its current slide and allowed 23 goals in its past four games. Against Carolina, starting goalie Stuart Skinner was replaced after giving up five goals on 17 shots. Clay Stevenson stopped 13 shots in relief.
Sean Walker scored twice for Carolina, beginning with a short-handed goal at 5:16 of the first period. The Hurricanes then scored four times during the opening 10 minutes of the second period to take control.
Logan Stankoven’s goal at 9:09 of the second made it 5–0, when Winnipeg had managed only five shots. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped all 26 Jets attempts, earning his 10th consecutive victory to open the season and his second shutout.
The Jets next visit Montreal on Tuesday, November 3, to complete a four-game road trip. The Jets were shut out for the first time this season. Carolina has won four straight.
