“I think Chris Ilitch has ran this team into the ground. He is very averse to signing players that will help this team,” a Red Wings fan told FOX 2 outside Little Caesars Arena.
The fan was among supporters interviewed in FOX 2’s report on Sunday, October 4, after Detroit’s 3–2 loss to Winnipeg left the Red Wings 0–2–0.
The report also included a call to “sell the team.”
Detroit has missed the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons. FOX 2 reported that fans had also chanted for the team to be sold.
The report included a supporter defending Dylan Larkin, who acknowledged an offseason trade request at training camp in September.
“He wants to win. You can’t blame him for wanting to win,” the fan said. “And if he felt like Detroit wasn’t doing it, putting a competitive team out there, then he wanted to go someplace it would, and I can’t blame somebody for that.”
Another fan called for supporters to stay together.
“Everybody is just so passionate about it,” the fan said. “We have to rally and be together.”
