Matt Boldy’s hat trick helps Wild hold off Blues 5–4
Boldy scored three times before the second intermission and added an assist in a 5–4 Wild win, bringing his career hat-trick total to five.

Matt Boldy completed a hat trick before the second intermission and added an assist as the Minnesota Wild held off the St. Louis Blues 5–4 on Thursday, October 15. His third goal, at 16:47 of the second period, became the winner after St. Louis scored twice late in the third.
Boldy finished with eight shots and four points, contributing to four of Minnesota’s five goals. He scored on the power play to erase an early deficit, restored the Wild’s lead after the Blues tied the game in the second, then completed his fifth career NHL regular-season hat trick.
Three goals, with an assist in between
The Blues led 1–0 on Jonatan Berggren’s power-play goal when Boldy answered with one of his own at 7:31 of the first period. Quinn Hughes and Joel Eriksson Ek assisted. It was Boldy’s third goal of the season, following a 2025–26 campaign in which he scored 42 goals and added 43 assists for 85 points in 76 games.
Danila Yurov put Minnesota ahead later in the first, but Mason McTavish made it 2–2 at 4:57 of the second. Boldy’s reply came 27 seconds later, with Eriksson Ek and Kirill Kaprizov collecting the assists. That goal gave Minnesota a lead it kept for the rest of the game.
Boldy then helped extend it. He and Hughes assisted on Kaprizov’s goal at 8:47, making it 4–2. Kaprizov returned the favor on Boldy’s third at 16:47, alongside Michael McCarron. Boldy had all three goals in a span of 29:16 of game time and Minnesota entered the third period ahead 5–2.
Robert Thomas scored shorthanded at 16:00 of the third, and Dylan Holloway made it a one-goal game with 15 seconds remaining. Cam Fowler assisted on both goals as part of his three-assist night, but the Blues could not find another equalizer. Kaprizov finished with a goal and two assists for Minnesota.
Where Boldy sits in Wild history
The hat trick increased Boldy’s regular-season total with Minnesota from four to five. He remains third in franchise history, behind Marian Gaborik’s nine and Kaprizov’s seven. Those totals count games with at least three goals, so a four- or five-goal game is still one hat trick in the comparison.
Minnesota selected Boldy 12th overall in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft. His three goals took his season total from two to five, while his assist gave him seven points through eight appearances.
His first NHL hat trick came against Detroit on February 14, 2022, when he also added an assist. He scored three times against Washington and Seattle in March 2023, then did it again at Nashville on February 4, 2026. The St. Louis game added a fifth different opponent to that list.
