Capitals Claim Jack St. Ivany Off Waivers From Jets

Washington claimed defenseman Jack St. Ivany off waivers from Winnipeg on Saturday, adding a right-shot option while Rasmus Sandin and Vincent Desharnais are unavailable, Daily Faceoff reported. The Capitals also announced the transaction.

St. Ivany, 27, went without a point in four appearances for the Jets this season. He has nine assists in 57 career NHL games with Winnipeg and Pittsburgh, according to Daily Faceoff.

Winnipeg acquired him from the Penguins in June in a trade that sent forward David Gustafsson to Pittsburgh. Philadelphia originally selected the 6-foot-4 defenseman in the fourth round of the 2018 draft.

The Capitals said St. Ivany recorded seven assists in 20 games for Pittsburgh last season.

He played college hockey at Yale and Boston College before signing with Pittsburgh in 2022. The waiver claim gives him a third NHL organization after his early professional years with the Penguins and his short stay in Winnipeg.
