Floyd Mayweather Announces December 19 Bangkok Exhibition Before Proposed Ryan Garcia Fight

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has announced an exhibition against Australian boxer Matty “The Jedi” Floyd in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 19. The former world champion presented the bout as preparation for a proposed meeting with Ryan Garcia, BoxingScene reported Sunday, while the Garcia fight remains unfinalized.

Mayweather posted the Bangkok announcement on social media. He described the exhibition as a preparatory outing before facing Garcia, the WBC welterweight champion. Garcia had said in October that Mayweather contacted him about a championship challenge and later claimed they had agreed to a professional contest.

Izquierdazo’s report of the announcement identifies the opponent as Matthew George Floyd, an Australian who has competed professionally at light heavyweight and cruiserweight. He has also participated in bare knuckle boxing. The December 19 contest is being presented as an exhibition rather than a professional title fight.

Garcia has separately said he intends to return on February 6, 2027, whether or not Mayweather accepts a meeting, according to Izquierdazo. His preferred contest with Mayweather would be a professional fight. That distinction matters because the Bangkok exhibition and proposed Garcia challenge carry different competitive status.

Mayweather has also announced plans involving Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao. BoxingScene reported that neither of those contests had taken place and their staging remained uncertain. The report did not establish how the newly announced Bangkok date would affect either of those separate commitments.

Mayweather remains 50–0 as a professional. Variety’s February account of the Pacquiao announcement noted that his most recent professional appearance was his 2017 stoppage of Conor McGregor. His later exhibition appearances are separate from that unbeaten professional record.

The December announcement supplies an opponent, date and city for Mayweather’s next proposed exhibition. It does not by itself finalize a Garcia championship fight or settle the schedules for his other announced matchups.
