Chargers Likely to Open David Njoku’s Practice Window This Week
Jim Harbaugh’s update is a step toward a return from injured reserve, rather than clearance to play against Houston.

The Los Angeles Chargers will likely open David Njoku’s 21-day return-to-practice window this week, coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday, as the tight end works back from a knee injury.
Njoku went on injured reserve after Week 2 and has missed the team’s past five games. He caught six passes for 67 yards in his first two appearances before being injured against the Raiders, according to the Chargers’ official update.
Harbaugh’s wording leaves the practice decision conditional. Opening the window would allow Njoku to resume team work during his injured-reserve recovery; it would not itself put him back on the active roster or confirm that he can play in Week 9.
The Chargers host Houston next after falling to 0–7 with Sunday’s 24–9 loss to the Rams. Njoku’s potential practice return would give the offense another player progressing toward availability, while his workload and game status remain unsettled.
Harbaugh also expects offensive lineman Kayode Awosika to begin working back into practice after missing five games with a fibula injury. The next practice reports will provide a clearer record of participation than Monday’s statement of intent.
