England Lose Alex Mitchell for Entire Autumn Series With Hamstring Injury
Mitchell will miss England’s games against Australia, Japan and New Zealand after another hamstring injury with Northampton.

Alex Mitchell will miss England’s entire autumn international series after suffering another hamstring injury, ruling the scrum-half out of matches against Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
Mitchell left Northampton’s 28–14 win over Gloucester on Saturday. England subsequently confirmed he would take no part in this month’s games, according to BBC Sport’s report from the national team camp.
The injury is Mitchell’s fourth hamstring problem of 2026. He will also miss the Nations Championship finals weekend from November 27–29, PA reported. The report did not establish a firm date for his return to Northampton.
Ben Spencer and Harry Randall were called into England’s squad as scrum-half options on Monday. Jack van Poortvliet, who started all three summer Tests, is another option for coach Steve Borthwick.
Northampton’s Archie McParland had also been included in the initial training squad but withdrew with a calf injury.
England are preparing to face Australia on Sunday. Fly-half Fin Smith took part in a limited training session Tuesday while recovering from a calf problem, with the camp optimistic about his availability. Borthwick is due to name his team Friday.
