Mike Washington’s Workload Raises Week 9 Questions for Ashton Jeanty Managers
Washington’s 25 carries make him a conditional bench add while the next Raiders split remains unsettled.

Mike Washington Jr. deserves a Week 9 bench claim in leagues where he remains available, especially for managers already relying on Ashton Jeanty. His workload against the Jets creates a real reason to protect that roster spot. It does not justify dropping Jeanty or treating either back as a guaranteed starter without another role update.
The Jets’ official game report recorded Washington with 25 carries for 83 yards in Las Vegas’ 38–33 win on November 1. Jeanty finished with two carries for nine yards. The full-game rushing split therefore strengthens the initial concern beyond a single quarter.
FantasyPros’ early Week 9 assessment noted that Washington had six touches before Jeanty had any in the opening quarter. That was an early usage observation, rather than a final count. The completed game now provides a clearer view of how concentrated Sunday’s carries became.
The New York Post reported that Washington received the first seven handoffs before Jeanty’s first touch arrived on a second-quarter reception. The report did not establish a disciplinary explanation. A fantasy decision should follow the observed opportunities rather than turn speculation about the coach’s motives into a fact.
In a postgame update reproduced by Sports Illustrated, reporter Sam Gordon said coach Klint Kubiak described Washington’s featured role as his decision while maintaining that Jeanty remained part of the team’s plans. That combination supports adding Washington while leaving the next distribution unresolved.
This recommendation assumes a 12-team redraft league with PPR scoring and an available bench opening. Washington’s 83 rushing yards alone were worth 8.3 points under one point per 10 yards; that is a rushing subtotal, not a claim about his complete fantasy score. A large carry total and a large scoring total are different questions.
For a Jeanty manager, Washington is useful protection against another unfavorable split. For someone who does not roster Jeanty, he is a speculative addition whose value depends on continued work. Avoid giving up a dependable weekly option merely to chase one game’s unexpected rotation.
Before deciding the Week 9 lineup, weigh any subsequent coaching comments, practice participation and the final player availability report. PPR managers should also check the receiving work because rushing attempts alone do not capture that scoring format. Until the role is clearer, use Washington for depth and keep a steadier starter available.
