Michigan Keeps Tommy Carr at Quarterback for the Foreseeable Future
Kyle Whittingham says Carr will remain the starter ahead of the Michigan State rivalry game after replacing Bryce Underwood.

Tommy Carr will remain Michigan’s starting quarterback against Michigan State and for the foreseeable future, coach Kyle Whittingham said Monday.
The decision follows Carr’s second start, a victory at Rutgers in which he completed 22 of 27 passes for 266 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 54 yards and two scores, including the winning touchdown with 4:24 remaining.
Whittingham praised Carr’s decisions, progressions and ability to contribute as a runner, according to On3’s report of the news conference. The coach’s wording established the current pecking order without making an unconditional promise covering every remaining game.
Bryce Underwood began the season as the starter before Carr replaced him during the second half against Penn State on October 17. Carr then started against Indiana and Rutgers, with Michigan going 1–1 in those games.
Across the two starts, Carr completed 71.2% of his passes for 433 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Michigan enters its rivalry game at 5–3, with four regular-season games remaining.
