Brewers Exercise William Contreras’ $15.5 Million Option for 2027
Milwaukee picked up its World Series MVP’s club option Monday, setting his salary for the final season before free agency.

The Milwaukee Brewers exercised William Contreras’ $15.5 million club option for 2027 on Monday, retaining their World Series MVP catcher for the final season before he can become a free agent.
MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy reported the decision as Milwaukee completed a series of offseason roster moves. The option fixes Contreras’ salary for next season; it is not a multiyear contract extension.
Contreras hit .270 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs during the 2026 regular season. He also became the first player in Brewers history to catch at least 1,000 innings in three consecutive seasons.
He turns 29 on December 24 and is scheduled to reach free agency after 2027. Milwaukee has previously traded prominent players entering their final season under club control, but the option decision does not establish that the Brewers intend to trade Contreras.
The club also declined the mutual option on catcher Gary Sánchez and the club option on right-hander Antonio Senzatela. Right-hander Dustin May declined his mutual option and elected free agency.
Separately, Milwaukee extended Jake Bauers a $23.15 million qualifying offer. Bauers has until November 17 to decide, while Contreras’ option has already been exercised.
