Inter Miami Secures 2027 Champions Cup Berth After New England Win

Inter Miami secured a place in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup with Sunday’s 2–1 victory at New England, adding an international competition to next year’s schedule before the MLS regular season has finished. The club and MLS confirmed the qualification after the match.

Lionel Messi supplied the assist for Germán Berterame’s equalizer and scored the winner in the 83rd minute at Gillette Stadium. The result lifted Miami to 59 points, one ahead of New England, with one league match remaining for each team.

Miami will host Charlotte FC on Saturday, November 7, at 4 p.m. EST. MLS said the team controls its opportunity to finish second in the Eastern Conference. New England closes its regular season at Orlando City at the same time, leaving the final positions to be settled on Decision Day.

Concacaf’s qualification pathway provides five MLS places: the MLS Cup champion, the Supporters’ Shield winner, the regular season winner from the opposite conference and the next two clubs in the Shield standings. Nashville has qualified as the Shield winner. The Champions Cup berth gives Miami a continental objective alongside its remaining domestic commitments.

The 2027 tournament will include 27 clubs from North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Teams qualify through regional competitions and domestic leagues and cups, with places awarded for performances across several different tournaments. Its champion will qualify for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, according to Concacaf. Toluca will enter as the defending Champions Cup winner after beating Tigres in the 2026 final.

Inter Miami said ticket information for its Champions Cup campaign will follow. The club also said its 2027 Sprint Season Ticket Members will receive priority access to the competition’s presale.

Messi finished Sunday with 26 league goals and 16 assists. Berterame’s equalizer was his 10th league goal this season.
