Ryan Garcia Advisor Says Floyd Mayweather Fight Still Depends on Availability

Ryan Garcia’s advisor says a proposed fight with Floyd Mayweather remains dependent on Mayweather clearing other obligations, leaving the matchup without a confirmed date or venue in his latest update.

Attorney and advisor Guadalupe Valencia gave the information to boxing reporter Mike Coppinger on October 23. Valencia described the intended contest as a professional bout rather than an exhibition, according to the statement reproduced by MiddleEasy.

“When Floyd is free from other obligations, we will certainly work to make this fight happen; hopefully real soon,” Valencia said.

The statement identifies an unresolved condition after Garcia publicly claimed an agreement earlier in the week. It does not announce signed contracts, a location or approval of a championship contest.

Garcia retained his WBC welterweight title by stopping Conor Benn in the second round in Las Vegas on September 12, The Associated Press reported. That was the first defense of the championship he won against Mario Barrios in February.
