Cavan Sullivan became the youngest scorer in U.S. men’s national team history as the United States beat Mexico 3–0 in a friendly at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on October 3.
Julian Hall opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Sullivan doubled the lead in the second half at 17 years and five days old, and Malik Tillman added the third in the 84th minute. The victory was the United States’ third straight win in this international window.
Hall’s goal extended his scoring start to each of his first three U.S. appearances. U.S. Soccer identified him as the third American to accomplish that, after Eddie Johnson and Alexander Rae.
Mexico’s Mateo Chávez was sent off for violent conduct in the 67th minute, after the United States had taken a two-goal lead. Diego Kochen kept a clean sheet on his full senior debut.
Sullivan’s record follows his Philadelphia development and his senior international debut against Peru a week earlier. The United States is scheduled to complete the window against Canada on October 6 at Allianz Field in St. Paul.
