“we need to turn the ball over and we have to tackle better,” Mike Vrabel said after New England’s 30–24 loss in Chicago on Thursday. Asked about defensive tackling, the Patriots coach also praised his team’s competitive response and said it had given itself a chance. Vrabel declined to make depleted cornerback depth an excuse. On offense, he credited the protection against pressure for helping create chunk plays, while acknowledging the running game fell short of his expectations. He withheld a firm assessment of the replacement linemen before reviewing the film.

Maye on Chicago’s Pressure

“I gotta have some answers,” Drake Maye said when asked how New England adjusted to Chicago’s blitzes. He put responsibility on himself to find manageable third downs and release the ball sooner. The quarterback credited the Bears’ preparation on a short week and said New England’s execution and penalties had prevented it from taking advantage of later opportunities. Maye declined to say the Patriots should have won, while praising his teammates’ effort. He described the touchdown pass to Rhamondre Stevenson before halftime as a play the team had worked on since spring practices.

Johnson Praises Chicago’s Poise

In the Bears’ released locker-room speech, Ben Johnson described Thursday night as a game that could swing between good and bad stretches. He told his players, “you guys didn’t waver for one second,” and praised their poise. He also called New England a good team and said the win had required the full game. His address included the presentation of four game balls.
