Sam Darnold wants to return against Washington on September 27, but the Seahawks quarterback said Thursday that he still does not know whether he will play. He is recovering from the glute injury that ended his appearance in Seattle’s season opener.
Darnold returned to practice Wednesday after missing the win over Arizona. Coach Mike Macdonald said Seattle would increase his workload during the week and expected to settle his availability before Friday ended.
Macdonald described the remaining question as whether Darnold feels well enough to play. Thursday’s comments from the quarterback offered encouragement about his practice work, without confirming that he had been cleared for Sunday.
Drew Lock has led Seattle to a 2-0 start after replacing Darnold following the first series against New England. Darnold praised Lock’s work Thursday as he prepared for the possibility of taking the offense back against the Commanders.
