The Tampa Bay Rays left Chandler Simpson out of their starting lineup for Wednesday’s ALDS Game 3 against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, starting Victor Mesa Jr. in left field and Ryan Vilade in right.
Mesa bats fourth and Vilade fifth, with Jonny DeLuca playing center field and batting seventh. MLB’s confirmed starting order lists Simpson among Tampa Bay’s reserves.
Tampa Bay entered Game 3 with a 2–0 series lead after its 5–2 victory in Game 2. Max Fried is the Yankees’ announced starter, opposite Rays right-hander Nick Martinez. First pitch was scheduled for 6 p.m. Mountain Time.
New York also changed its starting lineup for the elimination game, moving Trent Grisham to leadoff and starting Anthony Volpe and José Caballero.
