After Itauma, Hrgović’s Next Hurdle Is the IBF Queue
Frank Sánchez stands in the mandatory picture. Neither a rematch nor a unification should be mistaken for a signed next fight.

Filip Hrgović’s ninth-round stoppage of Moses Itauma on August 29 changed his standing in the heavyweight division. Holding the IBF title now brings a less glamorous question: who must he fight next?
Sky Sports’ follow-up reporting identifies Frank Sánchez as the mandatory challenger. Sánchez’s manager, Mike Borao, says the obligation would prevent an intervening bout, including a unification. That is the manager’s account of the position, not an announced fight date.
Itauma’s interest in a rematch does not resolve that queue. Any agreement to step aside, or any change approved by the sanctioning body, would need to be established before treating a different contest as the next booking. As of September 3, this report does not have a confirmed date or venue for Hrgović–Sánchez.
The sporting point is straightforward. Hrgović survived an early knockdown and produced the finish against Itauma. Now he has to turn the result into a reign. A disciplined first defence would do more for that project than weeks spent discussing opponents he may not be free to face.
