Brandin Podziemski Out for Warriors’ Opener With Back Soreness
Golden State will be without its starting guard against the Lakers on October 21; Stephen Curry remains listed as probable.

Brandin Podziemski will miss the Golden State Warriors’ season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, October 21, because of lower back soreness, ESPN reported Tuesday. Golden State ruled the starting guard out after initially listing him as questionable.
Podziemski had missed the team’s previous three days of practice. The absence interrupts a run of availability for the 23-year-old, who appeared in all 82 regular-season games last season and is beginning his fourth NBA season.
The Warriors recently signed Podziemski to a five-year, $110 million extension that begins next season. ESPN’s report did not provide a timetable for his return from the back issue.
Stephen Curry is listed as probable with right ankle soreness after returning to practice following Sunday’s open scrimmage. His status remains probable rather than confirmed available.
Golden State also enters the opener without Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, who are rehabilitating knee injuries. Kristaps Porzingis remains out indefinitely, leaving the Warriors with several established rotation players unavailable for the start of the season.
Golden State’s opener tips off at 8 p.m. MDT at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. More coverage is in the NBA section.
