Hornets Rule Out Kon Knueppel, Coby White and Grant Williams for Opener

The Charlotte Hornets will open their season at the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, October 21, without Kon Knueppel, Coby White and Grant Williams. All three have resumed individual on-court activity but have been ruled out for the opener, the team said Tuesday, according to ESPN.

Knueppel is recovering from a left hamstring injury sustained during offseason on-court work. He missed the entire preseason after a rookie season in which he averaged 18.5 points and made 42.5% of his 3-point attempts. His 273 made 3-pointers led the league.

White suffered a left calf strain during training camp on October 5 and did not play again in the preseason. Williams missed all four preseason games because of a right hamstring injury.

The injuries leave Charlotte without two guards expected to contribute after the summer trade of LaMelo Ball to Minnesota. The Hornets acquired White from Chicago in February and signed him to a three-year, $74 million deal during the offseason.

Charlotte’s opener at Barclays Center tips off at 5:30 p.m. MDT. More league coverage is in the NBA section.
