Bo Bichette’s opt-out decision will help shape the Mets’ offseason
The infielder has $86 million left over two seasons and must decide within five days of the World Series ending whether to return to the market.

Bo Bichette has a decision to make shortly after the World Series: remain with the New York Mets or use the first opt-out in his three-year, $126 million contract.
The deadline comes within five days of the Fall Classic ending. Bichette has $86 million remaining over the final two seasons, MLB’s Anthony DiComo reported Thursday.
The agreement also includes another opt-out after 2027. Returning now would therefore leave Bichette another chance to test free agency a year later, rather than committing him irrevocably to both remaining seasons.
Reuters’ original signing report described a deal with opt-outs after each of the first two years and no deferred money. Its average annual value is $42 million.
DiComo considers a return to New York the likelier outcome, but Bichette has not announced a decision. His choice will determine whether the Mets retain the infielder under the existing agreement or have another position to address during the offseason.
