Tom Byrne defended Joe Davis after a listener questioned why FOX had assigned the Dodgers’ regular television voice to its national coverage of the team’s postseason series.

Byrne read the complaint on Mad Dog Sports Radio Tonight, then acknowledged the concern without agreeing that Davis’s team role made him unsuitable for the assignment.

“Does Joe Davis sometimes come off as a little biased? Yeah, of course he does,” Byrne said.

“I still think overall he’s a professional. He’s not over-the-top, pom-pom waving like you oftentimes do get.”

Davis is FOX’s lead MLB play-by-play announcer and the Dodgers’ television voice. FOX assigned him and John Smoltz to Braves–Dodgers Game 1 at Dodger Stadium on October 3.

This story covers the Joe Davis exchange in the supplied radio excerpt. The separate USC discussion and an unfinished listener message are outside its scope.
