Texas fell from No. 1 to No. 7 in Sunday’s AP Top 25 after Oklahoma won the Red River rivalry 27–24 on a field goal as time expired.
The Longhorns’ four-week run atop the poll ended at the Cotton Bowl. Georgia took over No. 1 after its 20–17 win at Alabama, according to the new rankings.
Texas had opportunities to leave Dallas with the win. Gianni Spetic missed a 53-yard field-goal attempt with 1:55 remaining, and the Longhorns later regained possession before the decisive turnover.
Omarion Robinson intercepted Arch Manning with 19 seconds left. John Mateer then completed passes of 13 and 20 yards to Isaiah Sategna, moving Oklahoma into position for Tate Sandell’s 47-yard winning kick.
Manning threw three touchdown passes but also two interceptions. Texas finished with a 382–238 advantage in total yards, while Oklahoma scored touchdowns on defense and special teams, according to the game report and statistics.
The defeat left Texas 4–1 overall and 1–1 in the Southeastern Conference. Oklahoma improved to 3–2 and 1–1.
The ranking update adds the national consequence to Saturday’s finish. Texas’s yardage advantage did not offset the turnovers and the points Oklahoma produced outside its offense, and the AP voters moved the Longhorns six places down the order.
