Sonny Gray plans to pitch in 2027, open to Red Sox return, report says
A Boston Globe report says Gray intends to return to the mound. His mutual option remains unresolved.

Sonny Gray intends to pitch in 2027 and is open to returning to the Boston Red Sox, The Boston Globe reported. MLB.com summarized the report Saturday after Gray had previously considered retirement.
Gray has a mutual option for next season. The report says he would also consider Boston as a free agent if either side declines it; no new agreement has been announced.
The right-hander posted a 2.72 ERA in 29 starts this season and led the majors with 18 wins. He joined Boston in an offseason trade from St. Louis after waiving his no-trade clause.
His final start came in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Yankees. Gray allowed two runs over 4⅔ innings and struck out five before being removed with two runners on base.
Gray turns 37 in November. A return would be his 15th major-league season after previous stops with the Athletics, Yankees, Reds, Twins and Cardinals.
