Canelo Alvarez’s October 31 title fight against Christian Mbilli in Riyadh remains scheduled to go ahead, Saudi sports promoter Turki Al-Sheikh said following deadly attacks on the city’s airport.

Al-Sheikh said Sunday that Alvarez had contacted him to reaffirm his intention to fight in the Saudi capital. Al Jazeera and AFP reported the promoter’s comments Monday.

“Canelo reached out and told me he’ll still fight in Riyadh this October, no matter what happens,” Al-Sheikh wrote on social media.

Alvarez is scheduled to challenge Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title. The Mexican former undisputed champion has not fought since losing to Terence Crawford in September 2025.

The announcement followed attacks on King Khalid International Airport. Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said one person was killed and 11 were injured in Sunday’s strike. A separate Saturday attack killed 13 people, according to the Al Jazeera and AFP report.

Al-Sheikh’s comments describe the promoter’s current plans. No relocation was announced in that statement.
