Manchester City scored three second-half goals to beat Liverpool 3–0 at Anfield on Sunday, maintaining a perfect start to the Premier League season.
Erling Haaland opened the scoring after Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute. Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki added the other goals as City took control against ten men.
The victory gave City six wins from six league matches and left them three points ahead of Arsenal. Liverpool fell to ninth after its first league defeat of the campaign, Reuters reported.
City had faced a hostile reception from the home crowd. On the field, the match turned decisively after Gravenberch’s dismissal, with the visitors making their numerical advantage count through separate scoring contributions.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola disputed the red-card decision in his postgame assessment. His team then had to protect the spaces created by playing with one fewer midfielder, while City’s attacking options increasingly shaped the game.
Enzo Maresca became the fourth manager to win his first six Premier League matches, according to the Reuters report. The result extends the strong start to his tenure with a win at one of the league’s most difficult away grounds.
For Liverpool, the immediate task is to respond to a heavy home defeat. For City, the three points preserve the lead established in the opening weeks and keep the pressure on the clubs pursuing them.
